Everything You Need to Know About CBD & Coffee at Our San Antonio Cafe

Feb 15, 2024

Archies Coffee was born out of the desire to “Americanize” the Amsterdam coffee shop experience through safe, legal, unique experiences in a community setting. From interesting espresso drinks and cocktails to Delta-9 and CBD products, Archies creates a space for everyone to enjoy (almost) anything.

One of the things we see in-store the most is the addition of a CBD infusion. For some, this can sound scary or they have no idea what it is, and for others, they can confidently explain exactly how it works and what they want.

Whichever camp you belong to – never fear. We’re breaking down everything you need to know about CBD and coffee so you can beeline to the barista with your CBD infusion order next time you visit us at one of our San Antonio cafes.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring, non-intoxicating chemical compound found in cannabis. Unlike its ever-popular counterpart, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is known for its therapeutic properties. In other words, it does not give you a “high” when you consume it.

For this reason, CBD is completely legal in the United States. The 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized hemp (cannabis with little to no THC) and its derivatives, including CBD, as long as the THC content is less than 0.3%.

So, if you’re ever worried about purchasing CBD online or from a specialized store, know that it’s perfectly legal. With that being said, it’s important to do your research when browsing CBD products.

Be sure to only shop from brands that have a third-party certification of analysis that proves it has less than 0.3% THC and scans for harmful ingredients, such as heavy metals and more.

At Archies Fine Coffee & CBD, we sell our own locally manufactured CBD products – courtesy of for both humans and pets.

Benefits of CBD

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system is responsible for maintaining the status quo in your body by regulating various processes, such as mood, appetite, and sleep.

The endocannabinoid system contains three main components: receptors, endocannabinoids, and enzymes. The receptors are primarily found in the central nervous system, the immune system, and peripheral tissues.

CBD indirectly stimulates the receptors in the ECS, influencing their activity. It can also inhibit the enzymes responsible for breaking down endocannabinoids, allowing a prolonged effect on the processes the ECS is responsible for.

Long story short: the science shows that CBD has many potential therapeutic benefits. It has since gained popularity as a supplement used to improve overall well-being in a safe, natural way.

Here are some of the most commonly known benefits of CBD:

Relieves inflammatory and neuropathic pain

Ways to Consume CBD

Since the legalization of CBD in 2018, there have been leaps and bounds of advancement in the supplement space. There are so many ways to consume CBD, including oils, tinctures, capsules, edibles, and topicals.

There are many different ways to consume CBD to take advantage of all its benefits, including tinctures and chocolates – which you can actually find in-store at our Archies Coffee locations (along with Delta-9 THC products, but that’s another story).

Another fun way to try it out is by infusing it into your beverages. This is a great method for beginners or people who are curious about CBD because it allows you to easily tailor your experience based on your favorite drinks and flavors!

You won’t taste anything different and you’ll be able to get a better sense of the effects since you can compare it to, say, the last time you had a Blue Lightning energy drink.

Mixing CBD and Coffee

Since it’s so easy to add CBD to your drinks, many people like to infuse their morning coffee – or afternoon coffee, or night shift coffee, or 5th cup of coffee (whatever you prefer, really).

Combining coffee with CBD can create a unique and enjoyable experience, especially if too much caffeine makes you jittery or anxious. Due to its more calming nature, CBD can help balance out caffeine without completely losing any of its energizing effects.

For instance, if you are on your 5th cup of coffee, a CBD infusion could help you get a boost of energy without feeling like you’re actually bouncing off the walls. (Then again, if you’re on your 5th cup of coffee, we’d recommend switching to our in-store natural energy alternatives.)

At Archies, we offer CBD infusions with select coffee drinks, such as lattes, as well as our line of plant-based energy drinks, making it easy for you to try out the soothing effects of CBD.

If it’s your first time trying it out, just let your barista know. They’ll be sure to adjust the quantity and walk you through additional benefits in person.

If you happen to be doing this on your own, begin with a low dosage of cannabis oil or tincture, around 5-10mg, to gauge your response. Experiment with the dosage to find the right balance that suits your preferences.
